James Lee was the design architect for this new model rural school for Norfolk Children’s Services whilst working at NPS Group.

The new two form entry primary school was relocated which expanded the existing education provision to 210 pupil capacity in one form entry in Lingwood, Norfolk. Driving efficiency of layout and circulation were key to the design as the school was to be a template for future rural schools being planned by the County.

The main ‘heart’ space and entrance to the school create a public façade whilst also acting as a secure line for the school. The main entrance was made clearly identifiable through the wrap-around canopy, full height glazing and primary coloured cladding panels. This element of design also allowed for the introduction of the school’s identity through the signage and use of the school logo.

The design of the new educational facility provides visually inspiring internal spaces and external appearance, through a limited palette of materials of brick, render, coloured cladding panels and it visual connections to its external environment.
